My mother has always gone way above and beyond for celebrations for me and my siblings over the years, so when she had a milestone birthday in January I knew it was our turn to step it up. And she loves pineapples so the theme was a no-brainer. My dad and siblings had meetings with me; we took this very seriously. I made a notebook (in OneNote) and emailed out assignments to family members as we came up with them. I started collecting decorations and ideas last September. As always, depending on the scale of the party, figure out your crew early on!

Here’s a list of some decor pieces we bought or put together:

  1. Yellow and green balloons for a big “balloon garland” pineapple
  2. Large faux tropical palm leaves
  3. Tons of colorful fake flowers
  4. Tons of little pineapples (ceramic, plastic, paper, and more)
  5. Pineapple cupcake liners and toothpick toppers from Hobby Lobby (as seen in this post’s featured image)
  6. Tapestries to give luau vibes
Note – this wasn’t a luau party, but we added some Hawaiian pieces. You can choose to keep your party strictly Pineapple or not.
  7. Cut and tied tablecloths for the photobooth backdrop
  8. Pineapple bicycle for the photobooth
  9. A counter for a tiki bar (we used a bookshelf facing in to hold stuff) and little umbrellas
We did mocktails, don’t judge! Haha. I bought about 6 different types of juice and a few 2 liters of Sprite. Guests could mix up flavor combos and got a little umbrella. I did wear a mask and gloves for this. 😉

The most important things to do are: 1) make a Pinterest board and find as many ideas as possible! That’s where the fruit salad idea you see above came from, and it worked beautifully; and 2) plan ahead! The best times to buy these supplies are at the end of summer when they’re all on clearance!

Have fun!
