Hi! That emotional friend here. The aim of my blog is to fix the world’s usage of the word “emotional,” because being emotional is NOT a bad thing despite its negative connotations. Truly, emotions are inherently just products of resources used well or poorly.
So here is my crochet metaphor. Remember that I believe emotions come from our thought lives and are effected by our physical health.
Thought life: the crochet pattern you use and the skills you apply to it
Physical health: the yarn and hook you choose to work with
Emotions: the crochet product you end up with
When you crochet, you have so many options. Everything crocheted is completely customizable, just like any other art. And creating art is meant to inspire emotions!!! I get more excited the more I think about the similarities, excuse me, haha.
You must plan ahead what you would like to create, then you must learn to create it. I recommend reading each column one at a time, then row by row.
Want to crochet a hat? | Want to be a happy person? | Know what you’re aiming for |
Find a pattern | Learn how you need to think to be happy | Learn |
Choose the yarn color, weight, and fiber and pick the right-sized hook for the job | Learn about your physical health (remember that you can change your health, not body type) and how it affects your emotions too. | Choose the materials you want to work with |
Crochet each stitch, over and over, based on your pattern | Create a neural/thought pattern in your brain and keep thinking that way | Do the work! |
Show off your handmade work of art | Share your happiness with the world | Get your result |
Emotions are a result. We, emotional people, do not realize the work we put into our emotions. That sometimes means we’ve started believing we only have one pattern to work with. But we do not! Being sensitive is a beautiful personality trait, we just need to be careful about which patterns we choose, and help ourselves by working with stronger, wiser, healthier versions of ourselves (like going to bed on time, eating healthy, getting exercise and sunlight).
I’m so sick of hearing “They’re so emotional” used as an insulting identity.
Let’s redefine the common perception of being “emotional”!
